Jim, It is midnight and I have just responded to Nancy. That is more than I have done for my personal corespondance in weeks (except for my students, which seems to boring anyhow). I do appreciate the idea of your's. The war, a manifestation of the conflict, has to stop. And not only this war. By the way, I was translating some faculty promo material for my next academic year students today, and I realized it was all crap. Know why? Nobody gives a shit. They (almost) all want their degrees served on a silver platter without investing much of their effort into the process.

Can you draw any parallels to our subject at stake?

thanks, Jim. I'm bone tired from our own local "war" with no respite in sight--but I am more committed than ever to see this through, since to do anything less allows tyranny to triumph. I suspect that this is even more true at the national level, and I will contribute something as soon as I can offer at least a moderately informed opinion; local issues have consumed all of my time in the past several months.

Meanwhile, I invited David Barish and Carole Lee Walsh to join, and I will send personal invitations to others soon. (I envision myself as the tortoise...)

Hi Jim,

I am a friend of the Cannistra's...I haven't had a chance to read this yet but I certainly will. Thanks for your support for the MS150 bike ride...our team is the 5th highest fundraising team with $26K...not bad for our first year.

Interesting concept. Although I must admit I haven't read the whole thing, the report is a little dated (i.e., post-surge), isn't it?

Splitting the Difference: Still Broken

I criticized the last administration, and I criticized the lame bi-partisan efforts to analyze policy options for Iraq. The current administration is not bringing anything better to the table.

We hear that President Obama is deliberating between various options to increase the level of U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Apparently, all options call for more troops, and we're just arguing over how many. This shows how broken this process is.

While the number of troops we commit to Afghanistan must mak… Continue

Welcome to Fix This War!

We can use the Fix This War! community to collaborate and find better solutions to a terrible problem. Our leaders give us no good choices, so we need to create our own. We need to lead our "leaders" and find workable strategies for the Global War on Terror, the Iraq War, the Afghanistan War ... and now the Russo-Georgian War.

Right now, the most important factor these wars have in common is this: we don't understand them. Our leaders have not defined these wars. (The Russian leader will define… Continue
