We can use the Fix This War! community to collaborate and find better solutions to a terrible problem. Our leaders give us no good choices, so we need to create our own. We need to lead our "leaders" and find workable strategies for the Global War on Terror, the Iraq War, the Afghanistan War ... and now the Russo-Georgian War.
Right now, the most important factor these wars have in common is this: we don't understand them. Our leaders have not defined these wars. (The Russian leader will define the last one for us until we figure out a better approach.) Collectively, we understand almost nothing about the different religious, ethnic and tribal or clan identities that underscore all of these wars. We have no real strategy.
Unless we work together to find a better approach, our "leaders" will give us two choices: stay or leave. Neither of those choices makes any sense. Stay, and do what? Leave, and then what?
I've written Version 1.0 of Fix This War! as a critique of the Iraq Study Group Report. You might think that report (published in December, 2006) is not relevant to the problems we face today. Unfortunately, the poor strategic thinking in that report is still with us. This is not a problem with a Republican solution or a Democrat solution. Partisan politics helped get us into this mess. We need to reject partisan politics and work together. We need to improve our understanding and get new ideas. We need to Fix This War!
